Horticultural shows are fun and a nice way to show off your veg. If you haven’t entered one before why not consider it – after all, a show isn’t a show without entries, and it’s not all about winning – or is it!

Tree Trimming – still to come
Trading Hut and Rent for 2014

Happy New Year to you all, and let’s hope the wet weather eases back in time for spring sowings. Somewhere in there is a Christmas cracker joke about why your plot is full of water because of the leaks… enough!

The Three Belles – 1940 vocal trio – WWII ration fortnight

The Three Belles are 1940s vocal trio based in Woking, Surrey, who sing in the style of The Andrews Sisters, and tour the country performing at various events, including festivals, corporate functions and vintage events. This January, they are hoping to raise some money for the Royal British Legion, a charity we have worked closely with over the past year. To do this, the three of us will be living off WWII rations for two weeks. They will be using all the old measurements, ingredients and recipes that they would have used in 1944, and documenting it for their website so that other people may join in with eating rations and raising some money. http://thethreebelles.com/about-us

They have asked us if we could help with locally grown produce from the allotments. If you have rations you are prepared to donate, please bring them down to the Trading Hut this Sunday 12th Jan betwen10-12, and we can then swap them out for their ration cards (or whatever).

Tree Trimming – January?

Please can plotholders with plots on the borders with trees tidy your paths and plots ready for Serco to come and trim the trees. It is likely branches and clippings will need to be taken along the paths between the plots and this may catch hold of structures such as bean sticks, cloches, netting etc. near to the paths.

Trading Hut and Rent for 2014

The trading hut will be opening on Sundays again from 9th Feb. This year we will stay open longer into the summer months by popular request.

Rents are also due at this time of year, so once the hut is open, please come on down and settle your fees. As you will have seen from the AGM rents are the same again as last year £22.00 made up of £21.50 per 5 rod plot + £0.50 membership.

Best and Worst Produce Survey

Jane Weisz came to me at the AGM and said “What happened to the Best and Worst Produce Survey?”. Well, it is a little delayed but not forgotten. ..

In the now quiet period of late autumn and before Xmas is upon us can I ask you to reflect and send me your responses to what were your two best and worst crops this year. Details I require are: the name of the crop, variety (if remembered), comments (if you have any). An example return might therefore be:

Best Crops
Tomato, Gardeners Delight, wonderful no blight
Potato, Anya, also no blight

Worst Crops
Runner Bean, Moonlight, drought stopped fruiting
Raspberries, ???, very small crop.

Please send your response in an email to Bill Goodman at biugoodman@hotmail.com
